Aeropostale, Disney, Express, Finisar, HP, Semtech: U.S. Equity Preview

Standard & Poor’s 500 Index futures expiring in December fell 0.1 percent to 1,245.20.

Aeropostale Inc. (ARO) slipped 2.5 percent to $15.12. The New York-based teen retailer forecast earnings in the fourth quarter of no more than 38 cents a share, lower than the average analyst projection of 42 cents a share.

Coldwater Creek Inc. (CWTR) rallied 11 percent to 96 cents. The women’s clothing retailer forecast a fourth-quarter loss of no more than 21 cents a share, less than the 23-cent loss predicted by analysts on average.

Express Inc. (EXPR) lost 3.3 percent to $21.95. The apparel retailer forecast fourth-quarter earnings of as much as 70 cents a share. Analysts estimate 67 cents a share on average, according to Bloomberg data.

Finisar Corp. (FNSR) retreated 2.4 percent to $18. The maker of fiber-optic transmission gear forecast adjusted third- quarter earnings of no more than 24 cents a share, below the average analyst estimate of 27 cents.

Hewlett-Packard Co. (HPQ) : The largest computer maker had its corporate credit and senior unsecured ratings cut to BBB+ from A by Standard & Poor’s Ratings Services, which cited reduced financial flexibility caused in part by the use of debt to fund the acquisition of Autonomy. The company’s “inconsistent” strategies and management turnover may also have increased operational risk, S&P said. The outlook on the ratings is stable.

Semtech Corp. (SMTC) declined 4.5 percent to $22.15. The semiconductor maker forecast fourth-quarter earnings excluding some items of no more than 33 cents a share, below the average analyst estimate of 41 cents a share in a Bloomberg survey.

Synopsys Inc. (SNPS) : The maker of programs that help engineers design semiconductors forecast profit excluding some items of at least 51 cents a share in the fiscal first quarter. That’s more than the 46-cent average estimate from analysts in a Bloomberg survey.

The company also said it acquired Magma Design Automation Inc. (LAVA) for $7.35 a share in cash. Magma shares rose 26 percent to $7.20.

Walt Disney Co. (DIS) : The world’s biggest theme-park operator and owner of ESPN increased its annual cash dividend by 50 percent to 60 cents a share, citing record sales and profit for the year just ended.
